Definition – SEO is an assortment of methods used by websites to boost the ranking and/or frequency of appearing in the results pages of a search engine (Google & Bing being the two most popular)
Marketing – SEO is one of the earliest forms and is still one of the most effective ways to market and advertise your business or brand on the internet. If your company is selling a product or a service, users are looking for it so deploying good SEO habits and tactics will land your website higher in the rankings and closer to a potential buyer.
Optimization
1. Getting the basics done – Make sure that your website is indexed (recognized) properly. If your business has a physical location, make sure that Google Business, Yelp and other listings sites have your business name with your correct address. As those other sites have higher page ranks since they serve as referral websites, they add legitimacy to your site and therefore your ranking.
2. SEO is NOT SEM – SEO is based around having good and relevant written content on your website. SEM is a paid search mechanism that allows you (and your competitors) to bid on relevant keywords associated with your brand, your products/services or your industry. SEO tools can still cost money but SEO can also be done through hard work.
3. SEO is a continuous effort to increase relevancy and drive traffic to your website. Generating written content to include industry/brand buzzwords helps with increasing your site’s page rank and score. But it’s not simply just cutting and pasting the same phrase 100x to boost your rank, the AI monitors at search engines are constantly crawling (reading) to mitigate against people trying to game the system.
